We painted Valentine watercolor cards at my recent demonstration. If you look closely you can see the papercut kissing swans forming a heart. We pasted the swan papercuts onto a background painted with random wet-in-wet wash. This child added colored pencil markings to add contrast. We also painted wet-in-wet inside of hearts drawn in pencil. To paint the background we must leave a thin white border around the still wet hearts so the paint won't run together. Otherwise the hearts would disappear. We also painted some freehand designs - direct painting without prior drawing. These are examples of student work - both children and adults.
