workshops. Join watercolor artist Catinka Knoth for home studio (currently the kitchen table) classes in
Rockland, Maine. And, free adult drawing classes at Rockland Public Library. Mondays at 11 am. We draw with pencils, colored pencils, crayons, and scissors. A new subject every week. For all levels.

These classes took place in studio in the former Lincoln Street Center. As of this update 7/9/15, I have been holding almost weekly free drawing in color art classes at Rockland Public Library - Mondays at 11 am. Subjects/themes follow about the same general order as the 2010 calendar. Join me there when you are in the area, or book a private watercolor workshop!
You may schedule any of these workshops for yourself or your group year round.
Fees: Private workshops are $75 - 2 hour lesson & $125 - double session,one student; $195 - up to 4 students.

"Get Your Brush Wet Watercolor Sampler" - an exploration of basic watercolor techniques. Create a series of samples to use for future painting reference. Use brainstorming, self observation, and hands-on instruction to work up your own watercolor resource. Processes and techniques may include washes, calligraphy, negative painting, textures, values, colors.
Let's Paint Spring Flowers! - Watercolor Workshop Series - Create your spring plantings in watercolor, let your paintings take root, seed your mind with fresh ideas, watch flowers grow from your brush.
We will experiment with explorations in sumi-e inspired calligraphic brushwork, negative and positive shapes, contour drawing, variegated washes, and glazing. Photographs of spring flowers such as crocus, daffodil, tulips, and iris will provide a different subject for each session. Paintings by O'Keeffe, Charles Demuth, John LaFarge, John William Hill, may also serve as inspiration and models for study.

"Birds & Brushes" Watercolor Workshop Series Let your imagination soar, your brush take flight, as you express the freedom and beauty of birds. Students will work indoors creating from either their own or provided reference photos. Each week will be a different bird - cardinals, finches, warblers, hummingbirds, herons, & egrets. Catinka will demonstrate exercises and painting techniques such as sumie style calligraphy, working with washes, creating textures with wet-in-wet and drybrush, direct painting, and using negative spaces to create white shapes. Beginner to intermediate levels.

Let's Draw Together! - Children's Drawing
Workshops with artist Catinka Knoth at Rockland Public Library (home page),

Free ongoing weekly drawing workshops, for ages 6 and up, a
great family activity. Children 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Participants follow along step-by-step as
Catinka demonstrates. They create their own drawings in the process and discover how

"Let's Draw Up a Collection of Maine Memories!" - Children's Summer Drawing Class
Children will be exploring Maine themes and motifs in this summer' s ongoing children's drawing classes led by Catinka Knoth at Rockland Public Library. Children ages 6 and up follow along with Knoth in drawing a variety of subjects. The workshops, sponsored by Wendy and Keith Wellin, are free and open to the public, with all materials provided. Children age 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Parents and the young at heart are invited to participate with their children. Weekly classes meet every Tuesday, 4-5 pm, Community Room, Rockland Public Library,80 Union St. Rockland, Maine, hosted by the Friends of Rockland Library. Knoth believes that everyone can draw if they keep their minds and eyes open, and that drawing by 'following along' allows one to discover new ways of interpreting subjects.
