Mona Lisa
"Mona Lisa" after Leonardo Da Vinci, by Catinka Knoth

Mona Lisa Coloring Page from Dover Books - Leonardo DaVinci Coloring Book

We gave a try at drawing the Mona Lisa a few weeks ago. I did this with compressed charcoal on smooth newsprint. I use this newsprint because its cheap. One can get the end of the roll at a newspaper printer's for a few dollars. It lasts a long time and one can also use the paper to cover banquet tables for a community supper.

As for the drawing - I started with a loose roughing in of the eyes and kept on roughing in - nose, mouth, chin, cheeks, hairline, hair. I kept it vague until she started to appear out of the mist. Her head is not quite long enough but I can live with it. I like the drawing even though its not exactly DaVinci's La Gioconda. Read more on DaVinci and Mona Lisa at Web Museum.

Name: "Barbara"

To whom it may concern: (I'm not sure what your name is.)  I am looking for a watercolor class so I can resume my study of watercolor.  I live in the Bangor/Brewer, Maine area.  Do you have such classes?  Thank you for your time.

Above is a link to the Classes page on my site. I give classes in my studio at Lincoln Street Center in Rockland. You will find my schedule, prices, supply lists, and registration form on that page. Drawing & Watercolor Classes in Rockland Maine   with Catinka Knoth. You will find more contact information there as well.
If Rockland is too far for you or you do not find a teacher in your area, I suggest starting a watercolor group or a painting group or whatever you want it to be. You could start with as little as one other person. Place a little classified ad stating the place, day, time, purpose. If you don't do it for money you can probably arrange for use of church space at either nominal fee or donation basis. Then perhaps decide on a book you want to work from, so that you could do the lessons together. This would only be one way to go about it. I of course would love it if you came to Rockland for classes, but most important is for you to get back to painting. You may also check the Belfast area for classes. I know there is a watercolor group in Belfast I could probably put you in touch with.
