Learn to draw and paint a Maine lighthouse. Join watercolor artist Catinka Knoth as she leads you in a step-by-step lesson on how to draw and paint Marshall Point lighthouse. Participants will create their own drawings and watercolor paintings of the  beloved Port Clyde lighthouse (remember that lighthouse scene in the movie Forest Gump?).  This self contained two hour workshop, is held at the artist's studio. "Get Your Brush Wet Watercolor Sampler" - an exploration of basic watercolor techniques. Create a series of samples to use for future painting reference. Use brainstorming, self observation, and hands-on instruction to work up your own watercolor resource. Processes and techniques may include washes, calligraphy, negative painting, textures, values, colors.
Fees: $30 each/two or more, $50/single. Private workshops are $65 - 2 hour lesson & $110 - double session, one student; $150 - up to 5 students.

"Birds & Brushes" Watercolor Workshop Series Let your imagination soar, your brush take flight, as you express the freedom and beauty of birds. Students will work in the studio creating from either their own or provided reference photos. Each week will be a different bird - cardinals, finches, warblers, hummingbirds, herons, & egrets. Catinka will demonstrate exercises and painting techniques such as sumie style calligraphy, working with washes, creating textures with wet-in-wet and drybrush, direct painting, and using negative spaces to create white shapes. Beginner to intermediate levels. Supplies available if needed.
Starts 10am - Noon, Tuesday, June 2, additional first class is Saturday 10-Noon, June 6
Continues Tuesdays 10am - Noon, 6/9, 6/16, 6/23.

"Let's Draw and Paint a Maine Scene!" The workshops below are tentatively scheduled May - mid October, for Wednesdays 10 - Noon, at Catinka's studio, and possibly Wednesdays 2-4pm. Join watercolor artist Catinka Knoth as she leads you in a step-by-step lesson on how to draw and paint the iconic  blue and purple lupine that bloom along the Maine countryside in June. Participants will create their own drawings and watercolor paintings of these hardy abundant wildflowers. You may remember Barbara Cooney's The Lupine Lady, an enchanting children's book. This self contained two hour workshop, is held at the artist's studio. You may bring your own reference materials and supplies. Paint a Maine poppy garden scene. Join watercolor artist Catinka Knoth as she leads you in a step-by-step lesson on drawing and painting scenes of these brilliant flowers of early summer.  Childe Hassam's watercolors of wild poppies blooming in Celia Thaxter's Isle of Shoals gardens will also provide inspiration.  Participants will create their own drawings and watercolor paintings of these dancing flowers.  This self contained two hour workshop is held at the artist's studio. Learn to draw and paint Belted Galloway cows. Join watercolor artist Catinka Knoth as she leads you in a step-by-step lesson on how to draw and paint "Belties" or "Oreo Cookie Cows". Participants will create their own drawings and watercolor paintings of these stalwart gentle creatures. Visit the Aldermere farm in Rockport while you're here. It is home to the oldest herd in the United States, started in 1953.  This self contained two hour workshop is held at the artist's studio. Let's Draw Together! - Children's Drawing Workshops with artist Catinka Knoth at Rockland Public Library (home page),
Rockland Public Library (map page)

Free ongoing weekly drawing workshops, for ages 6 and up, a great family activity. Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult. Participants follow along step-by-step as Catinka demonstrates. They create their own drawings in the process and discover how well they can draw. Free and open to the public, these workshops are sponsored by Wendy and Keith Wellin and hosted by The Friends of Rockland Library. Materials provided. Community Room. "Let's Draw Up a Collection of Maine Memories!" - Children's Summer Drawing Class

Children will be exploring Maine themes and motifs in this summer' s ongoing children's drawing classes led by Catinka Knoth at Rockland Public Library. Children ages 6 and up follow along with Knoth in drawing a variety of subjects. The workshops, sponsored by the Wellin Family Foundation, are free and open to the public, with all materials provided. Children age 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult. Parents and the young at heart are invited to participate with their children. Weekly classes meet every Tuesday, 4-5 pm, Community Room, Rockland Public Library,80 Union St. Rockland, Maine, hosted by the Friends of Rockland Library. Knoth believes that everyone can draw if they keep their minds and eyes open, and that drawing by 'following along' allows one to discover new ways of interpreting subjects.
