"Autumn Leaves" Watercolor Painting Demonstration & "Painting Fall Themes" Watercolor Workshop Series

Rockland - Catinka Knoth will give a free demonstration of painting fall leaves in watercolor. Participants may join Knoth at the "Messy Art Room" studio at 11 a.m.  on Monday, October 4th, Lincoln Street Center for Arts & Education, 24 Lincoln St. They will see wet-in-wet, splattering, negative painting, and sumi-e style painting techniques.

This introduces  the four part watercolor workshop series, "Painting Fall Themes", that Knoth will teach on Tuesdays 10-Noon, October 5-26, at Lincoln Street Center. Each Tuesday is a different subject related to fall themes.

Maine Barn and Haying in September watercolor demonstration and workshop series

Painting the Sights of September -  Watercolor Demonstration and Workshop Series with Catinka Knoth

Rockland - Catinka Knoth will give  a  watercolor demonstration on painting a  Maine barn in September scene, on Friday, Sept 3, 11am at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education.This event is free and open to the public. Knoth will create another version of  her watercolor, "Haying at Harjula's". Onlookers will see how the glazing of watercolors builds up the tones of shadow areas. The demonstration precedes a four part studio watercolor workshop series Knoth will teach, "Painting September  Scenes",  focusing on the sights of September. Participants will explore Monarch butterflies; sunflowers and late summer gardens; haying and fields; apples and orchards; The  class will meet every Tuesday, 10am-Noon, Sept 7, 14, 21, 28,  at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St.

Each week is a different motif:

  • 9/07     Monarch Butterfles
  • 9/ 14    Sunflowers and late summer gardens
  • 9/21     Haying and fields
  • 9/28     Apples and orchards


Participants may sign up by suggested donation  of $80 for the complete series, or $25 per individual session. Call Knoth at 596-0069 or 542-7317 to confirm space.

Knoth, known for her watercolors of Maine scenes and whimsical animal drawings, regularly gives workshops in watercolor and drawing for adults and children. Painting Maine Landscapes - watercolor workshop series

Painting a Maine Coastal Landscape -  Watercolor Demonstration and Workshop Series with Catinka Knoth

Rockland - Catinka Knoth will give  a  watercolor demonstration on painting a Maine coastal landscape, "Monroe's Island and Sheep's Island...",on Monday August 9th, 11am at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education.This event is free and open to the public. Knoth will create another version of  a view originally painted from the walkway up to Owls Head Lighthouse.

Onlookers will see how variegated washes can depict a sky and calligraphic brushstrokes can represent trees and rocks. The demonstration precedes a four part studio watercolor workshop series Knoth will teach, "Painting Maine Coastal Landscapes", a studio watercolor workshop exploring  basic aspects of a Maine coastal view. The  class will meet Tuesdays, 10am-Noon, from August 10-31,  at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St.

"Blooms & Brushes Part I" - Floral landscapes watercolor workshop series

This  watercolor workshop series explores flowers and gardens in  summer landscapes. The four week studio class meets Tuesdays, 10am-Noon, from July 6 through July 27th,  at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St., Rockland, Maine, usually in 'The Messy Art Room'. Spring Migratory Birds Watercolor Workshop Series with Catinka Knoth

"Birds & Brushes - Part I" Watercolor Workshop Offered by Catinka Knoth

Rockland - Catinka Knoth will teach "Birds & Brushes - Part I", a watercolor workshop, at Lincoln Street Center for Arts and Education, 24 Lincoln St. The four week class will meet Tuesdays, 10am-Noon, from June 1 through June 22nd. An alternate schedule may run Thursday evenings from 6-8pm, starting June 3rd. Participants may sign up by suggested donation of $80 for the complete series, or $25 per individual session. Students will work in the studio creating from either their own or provided reference photos. Each week will focus on a different spring migratory bird. Part I will focus on bluebirds, goldfinches, warblers, and orioles. Knoth will demonstrate exercises and painting techniques such as sumie style calligraphy, working with washes, creating textures with wet-in-wet and drybrush, direct painting, and using negative spaces to create shapes. Students will learn skills of observation and expression that will enhance their future study and enjoyment of birds.
