Testing Animated gif Drawing Lesson of a Cat
Topic: Watercolor Class

cat drawing animation Does this show as an animation or do you only see a shape that could be the start of a cat's head? It is supposed to be a series of pictures I took during the process of drawing a simple cat.

Well.... after posting this, I saw the finished drawing and no animation.

A Painting of Owls Head Harbor
Topic: Art

I recently painted this large watercolor of Owls Head Harbor. I'd done the drawing on the watercolor paper perhaps five years ago. It was an odd route by which I returned to the work - see a large view of the painting and read more about it: Owls Head Harbor, Maine watercolor

More paintings of Owls Head, Maine in notecard sets.

Topic: Watercolor Lesson
Just a note: I thought I had some entries under this topic and found that so far all the watercolor lessons are under the topic 'watercolor class'.  As soon as I put up a new lesson it will go under this topic list (watercolor lesson).

Potato, Spinach and Cheese Dish for One - Recipe
Topic: Recipes

potato spinach cheese dishOne of my own recipes, for one person. Sometimes I make it with one potato, sometimes with two (or a large potato), thin skin variety - I keep the peel on. I find this dish so tasty you'd hate to know how often I've been eating it. See photo recipe of potato, spinach, cheese dish.

My Mom's Beaded Jewelery
Topic: Art

My Mom has been on a kick, for over a year, of making beaded jewelry. She used to knit like crazy and do counted cross stitch and petitpoint embroidery in between her knitting projects. She even had a fabric and yarn store in Freeport, Maine, for several years. Now she's fallen in love with beads. She loves the feel of them in her hands as the object grows under her fingertips. She loves the beautiful colors. She works hours on each piece. And at age 82 she doesn't need glasses for this close-up work.

My brother recently sent me photos of some of her jewelry. See beaded jewelry by Kirsten Deaver There are bookmarks, bracelets, and necklaces with crucifixes. This beaded work is the intricate kind that becomes a material of its own kind as it develops - like wampum. It is not just strings of beads, or beads sewn onto fabric in decoration. To create a consistent piece, one must sort the tiny beads to make sure the sizes are right. If a bead is just a little off in size it doesn't work.
